2019: Spring Cleaning-Part 1

Spring is in the air, can you feel it? Around this time of year as the weather warms up and the bugs invite themselves into your home, I always get the urge to clean. Here is part one of great cleaning tips for spring:

13 Spring Cleaning Steps:

1) Double Doormats
Use one doormat in front of your front door, and one inside to trap as much dirt as possible as we get into this time of year.

2) Windows & Blinds
Start by cleaning your windows with basic cleaner and once those are done, dust your blinds.

3) Stinky Sink
Does your kitchen sink smell like every meal you have made that week? Try cutting a lemon in half and dropping it down the sink, along with some cold water. Nothing beats that lemony fresh smell.

4) Don't forget the Microwave
When was the last time you cleaned your microwave? Simply use a sponge and apply some patience and elbow grease and wipe it clean of last months ravioli!

5) Spring Clean Counter tops
As you are getting ready for those awesome spring meals, let's have a clean counter space. This is a great time to get a specialized cleaner for your counter type.

6) Go to the source, the Fridge
All your food either comes from the pantry or the fridge. Be sure to empty out the shelves and remove them from the fridge and wipe them off.

7) The oven who?
This is another appliance not often cleaned, but not one you have to clean yourself! Most have a self cleaning feature. Although I would suggest stepping out of the house for an hour or so while it works.

8) Cabinets, Drawers, and Knobs-oh my!
Wipe down and clear any of the grime on the wood fixtures also in your kitchen! A simple sponge and wood cleaner will do!

9) Glitter like Stainless Steel
Some, not a lot of the parts of your kitchen, is stainless steel-like your appliances. Simple home made remedies and elbow grease make the kitchen sparkle.

10) Junk Drawer
Besides organizing it, cleaning it out and adding a liner is a great way to de-junk the junk drawer.

11) Shower Curtain
The layer that hides you as you clean-also needs to be cleaned! A quick rinse and an air dry will do perfectly.

12) The Lady's Make Up and Make Up Tools
Don't keep expired make up anywhere but the trash! Also, the tools need a cleaning every once and a while!

13) The Shower Drain
A homemade mixture of baking soda, salt, and vinegar will help clear out the drain in the shower.

If you have been following this, or most of this-you will realize we have only really covered the kitchen and the bathroom. Join me next time as we tackle the rest of the house.

Real Estate Investments: Invest Up

I want to speak briefly to the masses today. Normally our audience is the Buyer and Seller, and yet it is easy enough for anyone to become both. It could even happen that you are a Buyer, Seller, and Investor at the same time! How can this be? Me, a normal person can be a Investor? Yes. Even more than that, as soon as you start your journey you start doing something greater than yourself, building generational wealth. Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start. This beginning looks like a house purchase. That would be because it is a house purchase. Assuming you are buying this house to rent out, you are now a Landlord and Investor. The first house is going to be the scariest, it gets easier from there. Let's assume you have rented out the house for a couple of years and you are looking to upgrade from a Single Family Residence to a Duplex. You would sell your Single Family Residence and 1031 the proceeds of the sale into the purchase of the duplex. Yo...

Why Real Estate is Such a Good (Great) Investment: Part 3-Sell it

This is the next installment of a 7 part series exploring ideas of why real estate is such a good investment. The focus will be on single family and multifamily real estate, but a good idea is a good idea, enjoy.  Alas, today we will be discussing the main thing people think about when they think about real estate investing, selling the asset high after buying low. The biggest advantage to selling real estate is the value added you can do yourself. There is no requirement to hire anyone to do any repairs on the property, as real estate is sold as is. You can do your own marketing, your own negotiating, there does not have to be anyone between you and the market unless you choose for there to be. You choose your partners at terms you both agree with. With that great power, comes great responsibility. Though you can do it yourself, it is more advisable to partner with those who do it every day, rather than every so often. Consider that a real estate transaction employs a...
