Your First Home: Step 2-Hire Your Agent


Now that we have made the decision to buy your first home, scary I know-time to find a real estate agent to help you do it! What does a real estate agent do for you exactly?

They are your market consultant, home guide, your liaison for other partners in the home buying process, negotiator, and the closer. They wear a lot of hats, for this reason it is a very good idea to have conversation with them and get to know them as a person and as a professional. Here are some great questions to ask them:

1.      Why did you become a real estate agent?

2.      Why should I work with you?

3.      What do you do better than other real estate agents?

4.      What process will you use to help me find the right home for me?

5.      What are some mistakes that you think people make when buying their first home?

6.      What are common things that go wrong in a transaction and how do you handle them?

7.      What other professionals do you suggest we work with and what are their credentials?

8.      Can you provide me with references or testimonials from past clients?

It is very important for the real estate agent you choose to work with to show professionalism and to put you before the paycheck. I know this sounds basic but there are a lot of real estate agents out there who do not do that. Once you make the decision on who is going to be your agent, you both would sign the Buyer Representation Agreement-a document stating that they are exclusively your agent and you are exclusively their client.

Greetings, Today I wanted to simply jot down some thoughts I had about this novel coronavirus (COVID-19) that the news cycle seems to love to talk about: - Will real estate values be affected? The answer is the same as every real estate question, it depends. In 1987 we had Black Monday, the biggest one day stock market drop in history, afterwards, real estate prices went up in a straight line for 18 months. Just like any good investor, when there is a shock to the system, you have to recalibrate, you either go to safety (or even relative safety, like houses versus paper ownership in a company), or you go to what has been undervalued.
